Alexandra Reed Lajoux

Alexandra “Alex” Lajoux had a 35-year career in governance, serving a nonpartisan trade association dedicated to educating corporate directors on a variety of issues ranging from accounting, finance, and law to specific issues such as cybersecurity and the environment. She was a longtime resident of Virginia, where she coached youth baseball, mentored teens in foster care, and taught music and drama to students with learning differences.  She now lives with her husband of 39 years, Bernard Lajoux, in Fernandina Beach, Florida, along with her son and grandson. Currently, she serves as a volunteer Guardian ad Litem for the Fourth Circuit Court in Florida. She served as vice president of the Isle de Mai neighborhood board of directors, and as a member of the Fernandina Beach Parks and Recreation Committee. In the wake of the COVID-19 emergency, she volunteered to serve as secretary for a temporary task force on city finances.

Alex strongly believes in volunteer work and currently serves as a seventh grade catechist at St. Michael’s Catholic Church because she believes that as children approach adulthood, they need to know how much they are valued and how they are called to love one another. She is an ardent supporter of the Babe Ruth Little League and once COVID cancellations end she will once again be seen in Central Park cheering for her grandson’s team. She is a supporter of Amelia Forever (North Florida Land Trust), and a member of Amelia Tree Conservancy, Conserve Amelia Now, Friends of American Beach, Friends of the A.L. Lewis Historical Society, Friends of Fort Clinch, the Nassau County Chamber of Commerce, Amelia Island Museum of History, Federated Republican Women of Nassau, and Pétanque Amelia Island. Alex was also active in the successful community resistance to the car-centric complex at the Amelia river golf course because of her commitments to protecting the environment and sustaining Amelia Island’s character.

Lajoux, who speaks four languages including Spanish, has written books on business topics for McGraw-Hill and John Wiley and Sons. She is the author of Empowering Municipal Sustainability: A Guide for Towns, Cities, and Citizens (De Gruyter 2022).  She has a B.A. from Bennington College; an M.B.A. from Loyola University (Maryland); and a Ph.D. from Princeton University.  She served as volunteer research director for the Fourth District Congressional campaign of Dr. Erick Aguilar.  Her avocation is music; her record label American Classic Recordings focuses on religious and patriotic music.

ENDORSEMENT

She received the following endorsement during her 2020 campaign for City Commission in Fernandina Beach.

Her citizen-centric leadership is essential to enhance the quality of life in Fernandina Beach. During the twenty plus years that we have know each other, I have enjoyed her advice, resourcefulness, and counsel, which was invaluable during my service as a corporate. director.  She is a leader of integrity, empathy, wisdom, and courage.
